The officially designated trees, flowers, and birds for each of the 50 states

Every state has an official tree, flower and bird, usually endorsed by legislation. They are chosen according to what is native to the area... what the region considers special to their location. This chart will identify the flowers and trees chosen by each of the States.

FYI: Maine designated the white pine cone and tassel as its state flower. The pine cone is the female structure that bears the seeds, and the tassel is a smaller cone-like structure that produces pollen. Botanically, both the cone and tassel are not considered flowers, but are known as strobili. You could accurately say that Maine is the only state to have an official state strobilus. Also, Oklahoma's state flower Mistletoe is actually a plant and not a flower. It is, however, a flowering plant and bears true flowers, even though they are not all that showy.
